This 2nd book about Rae's turbulant life is squeesome! More secrets are learned about her family - shocking secrets that I honestly didn't see coming. I was captivated by every moment - I'm pretty sure I had shining eyes as I read it, which is why It deserves the new rating 10/10 E.

While I call the first book a 'trr' (train ride read') this is what I call 'EOSR' Edge of seat reading' Theres so many plot twist and turns. I was constantly left trying to put the pieces together and the moment when you realize what's happening is like 'WHOA!'

There are some books you can only read once. I started reading a couple of weeks ago but had to stop, however, I MADE time to read - not from where I left off BUT right from the start and I didn't get bored. It was like reading the book for the first time again. When I read the first book and found out there was going to be a sequel I was really curious to see how she would carry on the story, but she did so brilliantly! It was like 'Rae of hope' was just the stepping stone to entering this fantastic world and 'Dark Nebula' is the headfirst dive.

We get more depth to the characters, we see different sides to them and we can see how they've advanced in the past year. We're also introduced to new characters - some that seem lovable and others you know are going to be bad news. However towards the end I wish more of the characters were included in the AMAZINGLY suspensed fight scene which had me biting my nails to the core!
Dev and Raes relationship had the classic 2nd book rocky patches but it was still that cute type relationship that makes you go 'nuaaaaah'. There were times Dev really annoyed me and I just wanted Rae to man up and say 'No, I want you to be straight with me and tell me whats going on' but she didn't which made me crazy! I think Raes such an amazing character she manages to stay good no matter what life throws at her and she's a kick ass when it comes to protecting herself and those she cares about but sometimes she needs to grow a backbone with those she loves. She needs to stand up and no be pushed around by them!

The pace was perfect - not too fast and not too slow. I constantly wanted to know what was going to happen next and the plot twists kept me on my toes. I have this habit of guessing whats going to happen and sometimes I guessed correctly but the way they appeared in the book was always surprising. The last few chapters were full of action and I was on the edge of my seat with barely any nails to chew - I LOVE SUSPENSE AND FIGHT SCENES! Rae really steps up and shows us what a strong person she can be despite what she's going through at the time - she's clever and powerful, even when she appears powerless.

The book ends with lingering questions like 'what's happened to certain characters', 'What will Rae do with a certain thing in her possession', 'how many more followers does her father have' and many more AND we have a GREAT last line which will lead to the third quite nicely - I must admit not many last lines make me squeal and I CAN NOT wait until the third installment!

Dark Nebula is the second book in the Chronicles of Kerrigan series. This book finds Rae coming back to Guilder for the new year. Devon is now her secret boyfriend because dating other tatù people is not even allowed. I’m going to warn you now - I’m going to attempt to be super vague about this story. It’s not going to be released until December, but I wanted to start getting the buzz out now. I’ve made no secret about how much I enjoyed the first book, Rae of Hope, and I was equally impressed with this book.

The group of teens from book one are all back for another year. Some are back for school, some are now working for the Privy Council. Everyone is developing their tatùs more – including Rae. We get to meet some new characters, but I really enjoyed getting reacquainted with the previous characters. This is something the author has definite talent with, creating these vibrant characters that you want to get to know more. One of the new characters I’d definitely be interested in learning more about, though, is Reece. He’s just a regular ol’ human with no powers, but there is definitely something special there in that boy. I can’t tell you who he is, but I like him. I like him a lot. And I'm hoping he will be around for a while.

Rae is a little bit more cautious, a little bit more “by the rules” - more like Devon. For the most part this personality evolution worked for her, but there were points where I just really wanted to see her let loose with all of her powers. But on the other hand, that is the point of this story – she is learning to show restraint and how to be “good” in the shadow of her father who was most certainly “bad”. Either way, she is a smart girl who is ahead of the game by being a bit paranoid of everyone. If there is one thing she has learned since entering Guilder, is that you can't always trust everyone.

The adult in me really wants to sit Rae down and tell her, “listen, Rae, sometimes you’ve got to speak up LOUD.” when there are situations where she seems to flounder a bit between saying something or not. But I really am seeing this girl grow a bit more, and by the end of this book she is kickin'. The storyline moved at a steady pace and the mystery was top notch. The climactic scenes were powerful and you know it’s a fight til the finish. The stolen kisses between Devon and Rae were perfect in themselves. This is a YA book, so the heat level is very low. Even with that being said, I truly think this is a series for people of all ages. I, for one, can’t even think how many times I’ve wished I’d had super powers. Near daily basis, maybe? Haha. Either way, it’s a fun subject matter with enough twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued. And I definitely think there is more to come in the story.

The cover reveal for this book was this past weekend, and I absolutely love the cover. Rae looks so strong and confident, and powerful. I am more than a bit early with this review, but do yourself a favor and pick up the first book, and then put Dark Nebula on your TBR

W.J. May Has Done it Again!!!!

I have waited so long for Dark Nebula … and the wait was worth every second of it! This is the continuation of the story of Rae Kerrigan and it is absolutely wonderful! The story begins at the end of Summer with Rae’s return to Guilder Boarding School. She has learned a lot over the summer about her tatu and how to use it. She is reunited with her boyfriend Devon and her former roommate Molly. I was quickly drawn into the story and its fast pace easily kept my interest. Some of the scenes are just uproariously funny and will keep you laughing. Of course, Rae and Molly have grown and matured over the summer and so has their story.
The character development carried over very well from the first book and is again wonderfully done. Rae is the main character and Molly is, I think, more than just a friend, possibly even bordering on her alter ego. The two of them are so opposite that they just fit perfectly together. I would love to see even more of Molly in a future book.
In Dark Nebula, Rae continues to grow and mature, discovering more about her mysterious father. She is faced with some difficult decisions due to the dark past of her family. Finally as the story draws to a quick climax, Rae is faced with an almost Garden of Eden choice … does she choose the evil that she discovers feels so good … or does she use her powers for the good of mankind? I’m afraid that you’ll have to read Dark Nebula to find out her choice. You will absolutely love … love … love the ending. When I got to the last line I actually shouted out “YES!”
I look forward to the next two books and the continuing saga of Rae Kerrigan and her adventures. I highly recommend Dark Nebula to anyone who enjoys Young Adult and New Adult paranormal fiction. Dark Nebula is a solid 5 star read and will create an anxious wait for the next book.

 My Review:

Dark Nebula (The Chronicles of Kerrigan #2) by W.J. May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dark Nebula is the second book in the series The Chronicles of Kerrigan, W.J. May has written what I would say is a great addition to this series. I was quite excited to receive a copy to read and review to go along with her blog tour.

Rae who has had time off from school is now returning for a new school year, and she is quite excited about seeing her boyfriend Devon. Even though they have to keep things a secret as they are not allowed to date she just knows this is going to be a great year. We get to see all Rae’s old school friends and even get to meet some new ones.

This book is full of secrets and suspense and I couldn’t put it down.

The cover for the second book is great, I feel like it shows how much Rae has grown and became a bit more independent and accepting of her gifts and tatu.

This series is fantastic, W.J. May writing is superb and the story and plot flows well, once you start reading it you cannot put it down.
Of course I don’t want to give too much away and if you haven’t read Rae of Hope the first book in this series I would say go pick it up.

Rae of Hope and Dark Nebula are both very well written and if you’re looking for a new series to read and fall in love with I would go out and buy them today. I have rated Dark Nebula a 4 star rating and cannot wait to read more in this series.

Review of Book Two:

I am so SO glad I read book one and two back to back and didn’t have to wait! And now it’s back to school with Rae and Molly, and all the HAWT pieces LOL and we are learning how to use our goodies! It’s just such a fun story to read! And there’s nothing lacking for me. Except that maybe I am, of course, always part of Team dude-that-never-gets-picked. HAHAHA I will keep those to myself though! And even though you’ve got some seriousness to these stories, I find myself laughing a ton!

Now that things are going, everyone is growing a little older, maybe maturing, and I can’t help but saying Molly is totally my favorite! :) It’s such a great series continuation. We get more of Mr Baddy, Rae’s dad, he seriously is creepy BTW. Things are getting more complicated and there’s always those really difficult decisions… Ah, decisions, decisions… :) There’s some darkness in Rae’s family, and Rae is struggling with things and how they play out. This of course makes for a fantastic suspenseful story. I am trying extra hard to keep spoilers out. :)

We’ve got a lot of returning characters. And we also get some new characters. I love the the author makes her characters all feel like real people. I feel like I am meeting them in person when I read them. And some of them will be friends, some will be foes, and you just never know who to trust! *cue scary music* LOL The story is fast paced, it’s an easy read, and it’s very compatible with all ages, regardless of the fact that it’s a young adult. It’s such a great series and I really look forward to more! 5 MAGICAL PAWS!

Dark Nebula by W. J. May

4 out of 5

In this 2nd installment of this series, you get everything a reader like me needs: mystery, romance, deception, magic, and a twist that you can’t decide whether you were expecting it or not.

Rae is going through a lot.  Graduating is a big thing when you are 17, and now she is dealing with a boyfriend she has to keep secret and the breaking of the rules about tatu’ed couples, and trying to figure out who is trying to resurrect her father’s plan.  It isn’t easy, but I think she handles it a lot better than other people would.

Kraigan was almost what I call a semi-surprise.  I was expecting this when I saw his name (yes, think really hard, but not too hard), but I still got caught by surprise by what he could do, what he knew, and what his plan was.  I think he was one horrible wanker who deserved to get his ass kicked.

I loved meeting new characters, plus getting to revisit former characters from the last book.  New tatus, old tatus, and tatus that have grown definitely keep this story interesting.

I enjoyed learning more about the Privy Council.  The secrets, the mystery, and the overwhelming urge to compare them to Free Masons kept me reading so I could figure out who was who, and who worked for the Privy Council.

Honestly, trust no one in this novel.  No one is who they seem, but that is one of the great things about this novel.

Overall, this is a great book.  Highly recommend it, as I desperately wait for the next installment.

Happy Reading!
